Officially, skins do not yet exist in version 0.8.1. You can only change Steve's texture, but then it will be visible to every player.
But there is an unofficial client created by the GameHerobrine, in which you can use your skins, and they will be visible to every player who uses this client.
How does it work?
All skins are connected to a specific nickname of the player. The skin files are located in the GitHub repository, where they are taken from in the client, and are shown for each nickname.
How do I add my own skin?
To add your skin, you can write to Discord @eqozqq or mail me eqozqq@gmail.com. In the message write that you want to add your skin, attach the skin file (please change the file name to match your nickname), and write your nickname. I will add your skin as soon as I can.
There is also a client that shows skins not from the GitHub repository, but from the official Mojang servers, that is, those skins that are used in Minecraft. More
